Why I Started This Business
It Started With Flooring
I got into flooring in the mid-1990s. Tile, hardwood, vinyl, carpet, commercial welded floors. Over the next three decades I installed floors in hundreds of homes across Henderson, Green Valley, Summerlin, and the greater Las Vegas area. I've worked on new construction, remodels, insurance repairs, and everything in between.
Along the way, homeowners kept asking if I could handle other things while I was there. A leaky faucet. A door that wouldn't close right. A ceiling fan that needed to go up. I started saying yes, and eventually those “extra” jobs became half my workload. Turns out, people don't want to call five different specialists for five different problems. They want one person they trust to handle the stuff a handyman should handle.
That's how Dave O's Fix-It Pros was born. Not from a business plan or a franchise pitch. From real homeowners asking me to stick around and fix more stuff. I built this company on a simple idea: show up when you say you will, charge a fair price, and do the kind of work you'd do on your own home. That hasn't changed since 2009.
I still answer the phone personally. I still write every estimate. I still check every finished job before we call it done. That's not scalable, and I'm fine with that. I'd rather do fewer jobs well than a hundred jobs poorly.
Honest Scope: What a Handyman Is
I'm a handyman, not a general contractor. The only license I hold is the one to run my business in Nevada. I'm not a licensed plumber and I'm not a licensed electrician. That matters, and I'd rather tell you up front than have you call expecting work I can't do.
Plumbing I do: water heater repair and replacement, garbage disposal install or replace, toilet repair and replacement, faucet and fixture repair and replacement, water filtration system installation. I do not relocate pipes or do work that requires a licensed plumber.
Electrical I do: switch and outlet replacement, ceiling fan installation and replacement, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, interior and exterior lighting. I do not do panel work, circuit work, EV charger installation, or any work that requires a licensed electrician.
Bathroom updates: fixture, vanity, tile, and finish updates within the existing footprint. I do not install heated floors or move plumbing.
Kitchen updates: backsplash installation, flooring, and appliance removal and replacement.
Flooring: tile, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and carpet installation. I do not refinish hardwood or install heated flooring systems.
Garage: storage systems, shelving, organization, epoxy floor coatings. I do not replace garage doors, install EV charging systems, or do drainage.
