Professional Fence and Gate Repair in Henderson, Nevada

Most fence calls start with a gate. The side gate drags on the concrete, the latch no longer catches, or the whole thing swings open on its own after a windy night. Dave handles these repairs himself: re-hang the gate, replace worn hinges and latches, brace a frame that has racked out of square, and set the hardware so it closes cleanly. The other half of the work is the fence itself. Boards that have split and cupped in the sun, pickets snapped off by a wind gust or a dog, rails that have pulled loose from a post, and vinyl panels that popped out during a monsoon storm. We repair existing wood and vinyl fences and gates. We do not build or structurally repair block walls, and we are upfront about that on the first call.

Henderson Local Expertise

Most Henderson backyards are enclosed by block walls, so the wood and vinyl we see are usually side-yard gates, short runs between walls, and privacy screens. Those take a beating here. Summer sun dries and splits wood and turns older vinyl brittle, sprinklers keep the bottoms of boards and posts wet, and monsoon gusts slam gates hard enough to bend hinges and pull screws. Fall and spring are the comfortable seasons to get it fixed.

Our Process

1

Send Photos or Call

Text photos of the gate or fence section, a wide shot and a close-up of the hinges, latch, or damage. Photos tell us whether it is wood, vinyl, metal, or block.

2

Price Before We Start

We check the posts, the gate frame, and the hardware, confirm the job is within handyman scope, and give you a clear price before any work begins.

3

Repair and Adjust

We replace the damaged boards, pickets, rails, or hardware, square and re-hang gates, and adjust latches so they catch every time.

4

Test and Clean Up

We open and close every gate we touched, check that latches catch on their own, haul off the old boards and hardware, and walk you through the work.

Why Gates Sag and Stop Latching

A wood gate is a heavy panel hanging off two or three hinges on one side. Over time the weight pulls the far corner down, the screws loosen in the post, and the frame racks out of square. The latch side drops a fraction of an inch at a time until the latch misses the catch and the bottom starts dragging. In the desert, wood also shrinks as it dries out, which loosens every screw a little more.

The fix is rarely a new gate. We tighten or replace the hinges, set longer screws into solid wood, square the frame, and add a diagonal brace or an anti-sag cable kit so the weight is carried back toward the hinge side. Then we re-set the latch. If a post is the problem and not the gate, we will tell you that too, because a new gate on a loose post will sag again.

Wood, Vinyl, and Metal: What We Can Fix

On wood fences we replace split, warped, or broken boards and pickets, repair or replace rails that have pulled loose, and brace or replace a single leaning post when the rest of the fence is sound. Before any digging, underground utilities need to be marked through 811. On vinyl fences we replace cracked pickets, rails, and panels when matching parts are available, and we will warn you up front when sun-faded vinyl will not match a new piece.

On metal gates we adjust and replace bolt-on hinges, latches, and drop rods. Broken welds, rusted-through frames, and custom ironwork need a welder or ironwork shop, not a handyman. If a gate is part of a pool barrier, it should close and latch on its own. We can fit self-closing hinges and latches to an existing gate, and your HOA or local code may set specific requirements for pool gates, so check those before the visit.

Block Walls Need a Licensed Contractor

Block walls are the standard backyard fence in the Las Vegas valley, and they are not handyman work. We do not build block walls, rebuild sections, re-set footings, or repair a wall that is leaning, cracked through, or moving. Those are structural problems, and a wall that fails can hurt someone. In the valley, block wall work usually needs a licensed contractor, and a wall shared with a neighbor or an HOA common area adds another layer of decisions.

What we can tell you is whether the problem in front of you is the wall or just the gate hanging next to it. Send photos, and if it is a block wall issue, we will say so plainly and point you to the right trade instead of patching over a crack that will open again.

Where Handyman Fence Work Ends

We are a handyman, not a licensed contractor, and Nevada allows handymen to take jobs under a set dollar threshold without a contractor license. Repairs to existing wood and vinyl fences and gates, hardware, and single-post fixes fit that. New fence runs, full fence replacements, block wall construction or structural repair, and welding go to the right licensed trade or specialist. If your job needs someone else, we will tell you on the call.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does fence repair cost in Henderson?

Our flat-rate range for fence repair is $200 to $500. Where a job lands depends on how many boards, pickets, or rails need replacing, whether a post is involved, and the cost of matching materials. Gate hinge and latch fixes are often a small add-on when we are already there. We always give you a price before we start.

Can you repair my block wall?

No. Building, rebuilding, or structurally repairing a block wall is not handyman work. A block wall that is leaning, cracked through, or separating from its footing usually needs a licensed contractor, and in the Las Vegas valley that is the right call for most block wall jobs. We will look at photos, tell you plainly if it is outside our scope, and point you to the right trade.

My gate sags and will not latch. Does it need to be replaced?

Usually not. Most sagging wood gates can be brought back by tightening or replacing the hinges, setting longer screws into solid wood, adding a diagonal brace or an anti-sag cable kit, and re-aligning the latch. If the gate frame itself has rotted or split, rebuilding the gate on the same hinges is often still cheaper than a new one.

Do you replace fence posts?

Sometimes. A single rotted or leaning wood post on an otherwise sound fence can often be replaced or braced. Any digging waits until underground utilities are marked through 811. If many posts are failing at once, the fence is usually due for replacement, which is a bigger job that may need a fence contractor, and we will tell you on the call.

Can you fix a vinyl fence?

Yes, when replacement parts are available. Cracked pickets, a panel that blew out in the wind, or a rail that popped out of its post can usually be repaired. Vinyl that has been in the sun for years often fades or yellows, so a new piece may not match the old color exactly. We will tell you before we order parts.

Do I need HOA approval for fence repairs?

A like-for-like repair usually does not, but changing the material, color, stain, or height often does. Many Henderson HOAs have rules about fences and gates visible from the street. Check with your association before changing anything, and if the fence is shared with a neighbor, talk to them first too.
